Work continues apace on stunning Quay Street and Harbour project

Work is continuing at pace on the transformational €15million Balbriggan Quay Street and Harbour project.

The stunning and complex project will create a high quality public amenity and premier visitor destination to revitalise Ireland’s youngest town. It will also create a unique, sustainable public open space. The 19,300 square metre site will include a multi-purpose plaza area and linear suitable for markets, events, festivals and a host of other activities.

Following the commencement of work in May –

Upper Town Centre Car Park

Phase One has seen works at the Upper Town Centre Car Park at Mill Street commence and will reopen at the end of October.
Upon completion, 67 spaces will be available, including three universally accessible spaces. There will be 10 on-street car park spaces on Quay Street and four on-street spaces at Mill Street. Affected motorists are encouraged, if possible, to walk, cycle, or use public transport during the works.

Free, maintained car parks are available through Fingal County Council at Bath Road (Martello Tower) and Bremore Castle during this period.

Though site works have commenced at both these car parks, inconvenience to the public will be minimised and access will remain for school drop off and public parking at Bremore Castle. When works are complete, Bremore will have 116 spaces, including nine disabled spaces. Bath Road will have 50 spaces. Work is due to commence on the main Bath Road car park after Bremore Castle Car Park and the overflow at Bath Road are completed by the end of November.

Mill Street Footpath and Works

The first stage of footpath works at Mill Street is complete. Footpath works are continuing along Mill Street and are expected to be fully completed in November.

River Works

Works at the south side of the River Bracken river wall are nearing completion and works on the north side will commence soon. Enhancement works to the Bracken River within the existing open space between Quay Street and Mill Street, including widening of the water course, will encourage biodiversity, increase planting and improve flood resilience along the riverbank.

The biodiversity and environmental, archaeological and ecological impact of the work is being keenly assessed.

Harbour Buildings & Public Realm Scheme

A work compound has been established at the foot of the Harbour’s East Pier, site works and construction has commenced on the Harbour block buildings and is expected to be complete by July 2025.

Toilet and RNLI Boathouse

Work on replacing the toilet block with a modern facility, and the refurbishment of the RNLI boathouse, will begin in October and is expected to be complete in June 2025. Temporary toilets are due to be installed shortly and will be in place throughout construction.

Fingal County Council is working with the local community, businesses and stakeholders to mitigate any negative impacts during all works, expected to the completed by the end of 2025.
