Timeframe revealed for new €11m public swimming pool

A timeframe has been revealed around the new €11m public swimming pool to be built in Balbriggan.

Castlelands, one kilometre south of the town, has been chosen by the authority as the location of the six-lane 25 metre pool.

And the update on the new swimming pool comes as construction begins of a new affordable, social housing development nearby.

Hampton Demesne, formerly known as Castlelands, will comprise a total of 817 homes, including 377 houses and 440 apartments.

Fingal County Council anticipates the statutory planning consent process for the new swimming pool will be concluded at the end of quarter one, 2026.

It anticipates the tendering process will take place in quarter two of 2026.

And it is hoped construction will begin in quarter four of 2026 and take 60 weeks.

A provision of €11m has been allocated to the project over the three year period of the Council’s 2025-2027 Capital Programme.

The new facility will incorporate a changing village, reception area with café, and a viewing gallery.

It will be located south of the area’s Link Road, directly opposite the site of a proposed new school.

The provision of a public swimming pool was a key ask of the survey by Balbriggan.ie in 2019, aimed at shaping an order of priorities to transform the town.

The findings subsequently shaped Fingal County Council’s ongoing €54-57million Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme.

In 2024, a study which reached out to local teens also highlighted the need for a public swimming pool in Balbriggan.

The new homes at Hampton Demesne will be constructed in a partnership between Fingal County Council and Ballymore Developments.

It will include a childcare facility, playground, café and recreational amenities for children of all age groups.

Phase One of the development includes 207 Affordable Purchase homes and 52 social homes as well as the new Castlelands Link Road which will connect Hamilton Road and the R127.

It is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
