Another milestone reached as Mill Street car park reopens

Another milestone in the €15million Balbriggan Quay Street and Harbour project will be reached on Friday, November 1, with the reopening of the Mill Street Town car park.

Sixty-seven spaces will be available, including three universally accessible spaces.

Six EV charger points will also be provided at a later date.

Planting of trees and further provision of new public lighting will follow at this location by the end of the year.

The works at Mill Street are part of the Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme, led by Fingal County Council.

Commuters using Balbriggan Railway Station are encouraged to continue to use alternative car parking locations to Mill Steet.

If possible, they should walk, cycle, or use other public transport to access the station.

The re-opening of the Mill Street car park is another major step as work continues at pace on the transformational Balbriggan Quay Street and Harbour project.

The ambitious vision contained in the Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme was the result of historic community engagement in 2019 which saw more than 25% of residents outline their preferences for the future of the town.

The Programme set out an ambitious vision shaped by townspeople.

The total investment in physical, infrastructural improvements between 2020-2027 is currently projected at €54 -€57 million.

Elsewhere, construction is currently taking place at two public car parks in Balbriggan (Bremore Castle car park located to the front of Bremore Castle, and at Bath Road Overflow car park).

Both these car parks are being delivered in line with relevant planning approvals.

An upgrade to the public car park at the end of Bath Road (Martello Tower) is due to commence shortly.

It is anticipated by end of March 2025 a further 250+ free car parking spaces will be returned to the town.

The construction of a three kilometre pedestrian and cycle route on the Harry Reynolds Road, which will provide a cycle-link between Drogheda Street and Hamilton Road, is almost complete.

The route will serve three school campuses at Ardgillan Community College, St Mologas NS and Balbriggan Educate Together National School.

It will offer a safe cycling and walking route to shops, childcare facilities and community amenities, including Millpond Park and Flemington Community Centre.
The route will make travelling by active travel in Balbriggan safer and more convenient, particularly for children, older people and less experienced cyclists.

The Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme is led by Fingal County Council’s Economic, Enterprise, Cultural and Tourism Department, while the Harry Reynolds Road project is being overseen by Fingal County Council’s Planning and Strategic Infrastructure Department.
